This entry is about the \u201cseeds\u201d of a very, very special relationship. Maya (and in turn, our entire family), has been most blessed that Maya had another family.\u00a0\u00a0This journal entry is in honor of Maya\u2019s special little sister, Talia.\u00a0 Talia, you\u2019ve been the world to Maya!\u00a0 Happy belated birthday.\u00a0 We love you.<\/p>\n

August 2006<\/p>\n

Dear Maya,<\/p>\n

You are so sweet with babies. You are aware of how babies are born (the man\u2019s seed meets the woman\u2019s egg and they form a baby.)\u00a0 Over time, you\u2019ve asked me about what my pads are for.\u00a0 I\u2019ve always said, \u201cthey are sort of like a diaper for women.\u201d\u00a0 I did not feel it was time for you to learn about women \u201cbleeding\u201d each month from their vagina.\u00a0 It had been too much information for you to handle.\u00a0 But recently, you really what you wanted to know what my<\/u> pads were for and did not accept my standard answer.<\/p>\n

So I explained to you in the best way I know that you could understand. I talked to you about my eggs and when they\u2019re not used, they leave my body\u2026well, within a heartbeat, you lit up and exclaimed, \u201cMommy, you still have eggs?\u00a0 Then you can have a baby!!!\u201d\u00a0 You got sooo excited.\u00a0 You so much wanted a baby sister or brother of your own.\u00a0 (One reason was so that you could see it coming out; you never got to do this before.\u00a0 Little do you know, it\u2019s rare to witness this miracle.\u00a0 But your frame of reference is Adin.\u00a0 He got to see you come out, therefore, you should have this chance too.)<\/p>\n

\"talia<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0 \"IMG_1514\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Sad but true Maya, you are not going to have a baby sister or brother. As excited as you were about the prospect of being an older sister (momentarily), you were equally wounded that it would not happen.\u00a0 I called Marc and Noelle.\u00a0 I proposed to them the idea of you being like a big sister to Talia; having a significant role in her life.\u00a0 We live so close, and have similar lifestyles, why not give it a try?\u00a0 Marc and Noelle were most receptive to the idea.\u00a0 Since then, you\u2019ve had regular visits with Talia.\u00a0 You love her and are a great friend.\u00a0 She lights up when she sees you, and though it\u2019s not the same as being a real big sister, you love this role and look forward to your visits.<\/p>\n

You are so good with babies; it\u2019s a joy to witness. I am sorry Maya, my dear that I can\u2019t offer another baby to our family.\u00a0 Two is good; one for each lap!\u00a0\u00a0And my child bearing years are coming to a close.<\/p>\n

December 2015<\/p>\n

Maya and Talia remained sisters ever since. Maya\u00a0took the school bus to her \u201cother” family\u2019s home once a week.\u00a0 It was a mutual loving, caring, fun, spirited relationship.\u00a0 Not only did Talia have an incredible role model, but Maya had a chance to be zany and more.\u00a0 In time, she also cherished having a sweet little brother, Jonah.\u00a0 Talia’s friend Lola, became part of the extended family.\u00a0 As for me, \u201cit takes a village\u201d rings so true. How important it\u2019s been for our dear friends and neighbors to be a part of Maya\u2019s village and ours. Gifts all around.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
