We turn off the lights<\/p>\n

You peek out the window to notice the moon and clouds<\/p>\n

We lay down together<\/p>\n

You pop out of bed for one last pee<\/p>\n

I hear you call, \u201cMommy, can you wipe me?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSure.\u201d I pop out of the bed too<\/p>\n

I love this moment when I can care for you<\/p>\n

Back to the bed we go<\/p>\n

At first you\u2019re restless<\/p>\n

Moving around, trying to get comfortable<\/p>\n

I lay still, waiting for you to settle in<\/p>\n

We talk a bit<\/p>\n

Recount the day\u2019s events<\/p>\n

Discuss tomorrow\u2019s happenings<\/p>\n

I love to reflect and anticipate with you<\/p>\n

It\u2019s quiet time now<\/p>\n

Your hand on my heart, my hand on your precious little foot<\/p>\n

Your breathing slows<\/p>\n

I feel your muscles relax<\/p>\n

I know you are drifting away<\/p>\n

I slowly start to detach. Slowly, slowly, slowly<\/p>\n

You awaken, startled, despite my attempt to peel away ever so gently<\/p>\n

\u201cMommy, can you please stay with me?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSure honey.\u201d<\/p>\n

I kneel by your bed with my head close to yours<\/p>\n

You drift back to sleep, feeling my breath<\/p>\n

I gaze at your peaceful beauty<\/p>\n

I cherish you dearly<\/p>\n

Finally, I silently slither away<\/p>\n
