December 2006<\/p>\n

Dear Maya,<\/p>\n

Your life significantly changed a week ago yesterday.\u00a0 I heard a meowing sound outside the kitchen as I was doing the dishes.\u00a0 I called daddy to check on Merlin, as he usually doesn\u2019t cry outside.\u00a0 It wasn\u2019t Merlin at all.\u00a0 It was a skinny little kitten with matted fur, meowing its lungs out!\u00a0 We took it in.\u00a0 He would not stop eating.\u00a0 Adin and Mathew put signs in all of the neighbors\u2019 mailboxes to see if someone lost a kitten (yea, right!).\u00a0 I knew this kitten was meant to be ours\u2026well, yours I guess, really.\u00a0 I thought it was appropriate to give it a name of Chanukkah, as it came to us during the holiday.\u00a0 I started calling him, \u201cMacabee\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0 The kitten soon lived up to its name as small as it was; it hammered Jayson\u2019s (our dog\u2019s) head.\u00a0 You guys nick named it \u201cMax\u201d.\u00a0 We decided that if no one responded to the flyers, we\u2019d keep it.<\/p>\n

On Friday, we took Max to the vet to ensure a clean bill of health and plenty of shots.\u00a0 Low and behold, no one claimed him.\u00a0 As I was tucking you in that night, you told me that Max was \u201cofficially ours\u201d.\u00a0 I started cracking up laughing which in turn made you laugh hysterically.\u00a0 We were both laughing good belly laughs.\u00a0 Finally you asked me, \u201cWhy are we laughing?\u201d\u00a0 I asked you, \u201cDo you know what officially means\u201d?\u00a0 You responded, \u201cNo!\u201d\u00a0 This made me laugh even harder.\u00a0 You only had repeated what you heard daddy and Adin say, that Max was \u201cofficially ours\u201d.\u00a0 You asked me what \u201cofficially\u201d meant and I teased by saying, \u201cnot really\u201d.\u00a0 I quickly recounted.\u00a0 It means \u201creally, really\u201d.\u00a0 What a relief as we go back to the beginning of the story.<\/p>\n

Your life has changed significantly as you have expressed love to this kitten beyond imagination.\u00a0 You care for him so deeply.\u00a0 You are smothering him with love.\u00a0 Pets.\u00a0 Holding him.\u00a0 Feeding.\u00a0 Playing.\u00a0 Cuddling.\u00a0 Sleeping.\u00a0 What an outpouring of affection.\u00a0 It has been incredible to witness the way you nurture this little being.\u00a0 You are so genuinely compassionate; it is very touching.\u00a0 I\u2019m glad that Macabee has found you, as you really changed one another\u2019s life!<\/p>\n

And now, February 24, 2016<\/p>\n

Like a loving couple, what often happens, one loved one dies and then, soon after, the other passes over.\u00a0 Macabee, who was Maya\u2019s cat through and through since December 2006, left us this evening.\u00a0 He lived for Maya; there was such strong mutual love between them.\u00a0 On a personal note, I did not fully bond with Macabee for all of these years.\u00a0 It wasn\u2019t until Maya passed that I deeply welcomed the love that Maya experienced. \u00a0So much to share, but for now, raw sadness and tears.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
