None of us here in life were given a script.\u00a0 We\u2019re all just figuring it out, trying to do the best we can.\u00a0 It\u2019s always been that way.\u00a0 But since Maya took her life, my awareness of how to live has been heightened.\u00a0 Part of this awareness for me, has to do with survival and coping.\u00a0 How to wake up each morning, put my feet on the ground and rise?\u00a0 My work is to listen to my heart\u2019s calling to make the right choice for me and my family.\u00a0 Is it a moment to allow my tears to flow, go to work, dance class, a hike, write, organize, be with friends, family, or do the laundry?<\/p>\n

Starting the Maya Gold Foundation, really was not a choice for me.\u00a0 I knew immediately that there is something bigger here.\u00a0 It was not a sense.\u00a0 It is a knowledge.\u00a0 It was not a choice for me to hide under the covers.\u00a0 I am driven to make change.\u00a0 And while I don\u2019t really know the lines to this part of the play, again, like we all are, I\u2019m figuring it out.\u00a0 I\u2019m improvising, again, doing the best I can.<\/p>\n

I am walking into today\u2019s event with both calm and excitement.\u00a0 The last time we were at Studley Theatre was for Maya\u2019s funeral.\u00a0 I was inches from my daughter.\u00a0 Today, about six months later, we will be there again to shed light on the work we\u2019ve begun since Maya\u2019s death.\u00a0 Though Maya\u2019s body is not with us, Maya\u2019s spirit has certainly been with us all along and will be today.<\/p>\n

The outpouring of support from this community and afar has sustained me. \u00a0I welcome learning the lines of this crazy play together as we create a more loving world.\u00a0 We each may pick up different instruments and find our own voices.\u00a0 Let the music of the concert today carry us and please, let\u2019s sing together.<\/p>\n

\"Candle<\/a><\/p>\n

The image of the candle and the heart originated during a chalk mural at the culmination of a candlelight vigil led by Caleb, a friend of Maya’s. \u00a0One of Maya\u2019s peers created the image.\u00a0 It is a reminder for me as I send the community love and light.<\/em><\/p>\n
