Dear Maya,<\/p>\n

It\u2019s times like now that I just want to stop the clock and be in this moment with you for a while.\u00a0 How precious time is.\u00a0 How precious life is.<\/p>\n

You recently (two weekends ago) \u201cbroke the code.\u201d\u00a0 You are really reading now.\u00a0 Word by word, you are getting it.\u00a0 And if you cannot recognize the word, you stretch it out, letter by letter and put it all together.\u00a0 You started in a big way with \u201cGreen Eggs and Ham.\u201d\u00a0 My mom asked (knowing the book), \u201cdid she memorize it?\u201d \u00a0But no, Maya, your little index finger points to each word, one by one.\u00a0 The magical part is, how you light up.\u00a0 You are thrilled by this achievement of figuring it all out.\u00a0 It seems as if life has new meaning to you since the code has been broken.<\/p>\n

We have been quite \u201ccrafty\u201d together.\u00a0 This is another place that I\u2019d love to freeze time.\u00a0 Creating with you is so fulfilling.\u00a0 Right now we are working on two projects; Valentine\u2019s Day cards and your school\u2019s \u201c100 day\u201d project.\u00a0 The process is as meaningful as the outcome.\u00a0 You have an organized, creative, methodical, whimsical mind.\u00a0 Putting it into action is fun.<\/p>\n

Recently, I\u2019ve had the occasion to go to your kindergarten class twice.\u00a0 Both times were a near disappointment for you, as once you thought I wasn\u2019t coming (I had told you I\u2019d be late) and the other time, you thought I had left without saying good-bye.\u00a0 Sadly, both times, these disappointments ended in tears.\u00a0 Both times, I was there (late once, and to say good-bye, the other).\u00a0 I was able to comfort you, yet your pain was so deep.\u00a0 Later at home, we had the opportunity to talk about these experiences.\u00a0 I wanted to use these experiences as a tool for possible later disappointments.\u00a0 At our dinner table, we talked about my inner feeling, even when I\u2019m sad or hurt, or angry, that I always know inside of me that \u201cit\u2019s going to be alright.\u00a0 Everything is going to be okay.\u201d<\/p>\n

Daddy talked about not having that feeling as much as I do.\u00a0 He loves it when I share this feeling with him.\u00a0 It\u2019s a source of comfort.\u00a0 He even carries a little stone that reminds him of the feeling.\u00a0 On the stone is the word, \u201cFAITH.\u201d<\/p>\n

Adin shared similar thoughts.\u00a0 He remembered when he was in second grade, Daddy was supposed to pick him up.\u00a0 All the other \u201cparent pick-ups\u201d had left.\u00a0 Adin was partly feeling forgotten and sad, but he knew in his heart that it would all be okay.\u00a0 And sure enough, Daddy arrived.<\/p>\n

I know this is something that you have to find inside yourself.\u00a0 I would just like to somehow give you this gift if I could, as the belief that all will work out in the end has served me well.<\/p>\n

Last, I want to share a story from last night.\u00a0 We watched a movie called, \u201cBecause of Winn Dixie.\u201d\u00a0 It was about a girl and her dog.\u00a0 Though you did not fully understand the content and the story line of the movie, as we were going to sleep you told me that the girl in the movie is a lot like you.<\/p>\n

  1. She imagines things a lot and so do you<\/li>\n
  2. She gets sad and so do you<\/li>\n
  3. She has a dog that she loves and so do<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    How sweet you are Maya.\u00a0 Last night as we were going to sleep, I shed some loving tears.<\/p>\n
