This morning, I attended my first Yizkor Service since Maya\u2019s passing.\u00a0 It is a time to be together with others who are remembering a loved one.\u00a0 Prayers were offered, songs sung, poetry read, and those who wanted to share personal memories, or anything at all, did.<\/p>\n

\"IMG_0043\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I grappled with the term, \u201cremember\u201d, as Maya is very much with me, always.\u00a0 Rabbi Jonathan shared that, \u201cone way to look at \u2018remember\u2019 is to \u2018put back together.\u2019\u00a0 It is the opposite of \u2018dismember.\u2019\u00a0 So when we remember, we are reassembling the memory, which then becomes present and very real in our experience.\u201d\u00a0 This rings so true for me.\u00a0 I am constantly present with my experience of Maya, then and now.\u00a0 She is not here in her body, but those memories, those life experiences, that deep love, will always be with me.<\/p>\n

\"peace<\/a><\/p>\n

And because of this, Maya is a part of me.\u00a0 I carry her, as so many of us do.\u00a0 At the closing of this service, Rabbi Jonathan invited us to share. \u00a0“What quality of the person you are remembering would you want to bring into the world?\u201d\u00a0 Along with some tears, for that moment, I shared, \u201cto live life fully, with joy.\u201d<\/p>\n
