I awoke at 4:00 this morning to the most delightful scent coming in our windows.\u00a0 It was a fragrance that I couldn\u2019t identify, but one that only could waft in with the newness of the season.\u00a0 How pleasant it was.\u00a0 And here we are.\u00a0 Another season.\u00a0 I have a new relationship with time.\u00a0 Part of my life froze on October 2; yet the days, weeks, months and seasons continue.\u00a0 How could that be?<\/p>\n

Last week, one of Maya\u2019s close friends turned 16.\u00a0 A reminder; time is moving on.\u00a0 The driving permits, licenses, decisions about college, travel, graduation, and on.\u00a0 And me; I too, continue to age.\u00a0 I wish I could slow down the clock.\u00a0 With time passing, it takes me further from hearing Maya\u2019s footsteps, her voice, her laugh, feeling her hair, and looking into those gorgeous eyes, sometime rolling, always shining.\u00a0 I want to hold on to all of that and more.\u00a0 Will the passage of time bring me closer to Maya in a different realm?<\/p>\n

I chose to harvest some milkweed buds and eat them this evening to have a taste of one of our favorite early summer rituals.\u00a0 I know that it\u2019s not great for the butterfly population, but we\u2019d only pick a few from fields where there are many.\u00a0 Why is that they always grow by so much poison ivy?\u00a0 And why is there such a short window of time to harvest them before they become toxic?\u00a0 Are there some lessons here?\u00a0 That was enough to scare others in our household from going anywhere near this plant.\u00a0 But Maya and I were all about savoring the delicacy of precious milkweed. \u00a0\u00a0I miss my girl so.<\/p>\n

It started to drizzle.\u00a0 I lay awake, embracing the moment and the sadness at once.\u00a0 This is my life now.\u00a0 Is this how it will be forever?\u00a0 Finding the joy in spite of or along with the sadness?\u00a0 Holding both, honoring both.<\/p>\n
